The Bloomfield Hills Schools Teacher of the Year, which is part of the longstanding Distinguished Service Awards, celebrates outstanding educators for their dedication and positive influence on students. Each year, the Teacher of the Year Award honors one exceptional educator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

This year’s Elementary Teacher of the Year is Cynthia Zervos from Way Elementary. A dedicated educator at Way, Ms. Zervos has inspired a love of reading among students through her thoughtful and engaging approach. During her prep period, she opens the library to students who may need help finding books that match their interests and reading levels. She actively seeks student recommendations to stay current with their reading preferences and collaborates with the Bloomfield Township Library to ensure students have access to books that spark their curiosity. Through her passion and dedication, Ms. Zervos has transformed the Way Elementary library into a welcoming space where every student feels a sense of belonging and community.

The Bloomfield Hills Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year is Beth Mueller from North Hills Middle School. A dedicated special education teacher, Ms. Mueller has made a profound impact on her students by fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. She collaborates closely with staff to ensure students receive the right level of support in their classrooms. Ms. Mueller is known for her ability to quickly connect with students. Ms. Mueller creates a safe, welcoming space where they feel valued and empowered to learn. A master of multiple subjects, she seamlessly adapts her expertise to personalize learning, making a lasting difference in the lives of her students.

The Bloomfield Hills Schools High School Teacher of the Year is Rachel Matz from Bloomfield Hills High School. Ms. Matz is a forward-thinking educator who leverages technology to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for her students. She has seamlessly integrated AI into her lessons, teaching students how to use it responsibly while enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Beyond her innovative approach, Ms. Matz is deeply committed to meeting the individual needs of each student, adapting her teaching strategies to help them succeed. Her classroom is a space where students feel valued, heard, and empowered to take ownership of their learning. Through her dedication and creativity, Ms. Matz is shaping the future of education at Bloomfield Hills High School.
